PAR is engaged in on-going
efforts designed to develop an environment which encourages responsible
decisions about alcohol consumption on campus and in the community.
The media is a primary tool to distribute these environmental messages. It
is important to remember that the media plays a vital part in our
daily environments. In many cases popular media tend to glamorize
high-risk alcohol use without refecting all the negative consequences
that can result.
The media section of PAR's site will give the reader
an idea of how PAR and other community-campus coalitions attempt
to work with different media venues to continue to distribute positive
environmental messages within our communities.
PAR media goals attempt to:
- Heighten awareness among students of the level of
high-risk drinking on and off campus, as well as the consequences
and long-term effects of this behavior.
- Work with university administration, student groups,
and cultural organizations in the community to offer alcohol-free
entertainment (marquee.fsu.edu).
- Build partnerships with local government officials, community leaders, and bar and restaurant owners to develop community-based solutions.
- Advocate for changes to campus alcohol policies
and city and state alcohol-related laws to support an environment
of responsible sales and consumption.
- Monitor and promote enforcement of alcohol-related policies and laws.
