Healthy Holidays

Follow these helpful tips for the holiday season and enjoy this wonderful time of year!

Don't diet
This is not the time of year to place tight restrictions on the foods we eat. For most of us, holiday foods are an important part of the holidays. Placing severe restrictions on ourselves will only cause frustration and feelings of deprivation. Enjoy your holiday favorites in small amounts.

Spread out your food intake
If your Thanksgiving meal is at 3:00 pm, be sure to eat a well-balanced breakfast and maybe a light snack around lunchtime (fruit, crackers). Prepare also for a light snack later in the evening (small portion of leftovers).

Watch portion sizes
Watching how much you eat isn't doesn't necessarily mean you are "dieting". Remember that a serving of meat is the size of a deck of cards, and a serving of pasta and rice is the size of a computer mouse. The more active you are, the more servings you need. Refer to your food pyramid for more information.

Stay Active
It's easy to get off track with an exercise routine, but to make sure you don't end up too rusty in the Spring, enjoy some physical activities like walking/jogging, roller blading, biking and skating or skiing (if you're around that white stuff)!
