If a student is established
with an allergist either here in Tallahassee or in his or her
home town, the student can have injections given at Thagard Student
Health Center. Allergy injections are by appointment-only and
can be made at least 24 hours in advance by contacting Cathy
Molitaris, RN at 644-9492 or cmolitaris@admin.fsu.edu.
As a matter of safety and continuity of care, our clinic will
establish relationships with allergists’ offices to clarify
any possible dosing questions and report any reactions. We always
have a physician on duty and we stock anti-anaphylactic medications
and oxygen in the clinic in the event of a severe reaction.
Routine appointments take approximately 30 minutes, while initial
appointments take 30-45 minutes because of some required paperwork. Due
to the volume of students requesting allergy appointments, patients
who miss their appointment time will be charged a no-show fee,
and the patient will need to reschedule another appointment.
The
following is required from prescribing physicians before
students may receive allergy injections at TSHC:
- Signed letter or Rx from the prescribing physician
requesting administration of allergy injections, stating
you are under their care fro defined treatment and
diagnosis.
- Physician name, address, office phone / fax numbers.
- List of all materials in allergy serum vials.
- Specific dosage and frequency of injections.
- Instructions for interruption of schedule (i.e.,
missed injection).
- Name of patient on each vial.
- The concentration of each vial.
- The expiration date of each vial.
- Treatment of local/systemic reactions
- Complete instructions with each new vial or change
in concentration.
- (At Thagard Student Health Center Allergy Clinic):
Signed patient consent form from Thagard Student Health
Center, which includes: procedure consent to perform
the injection; medical records release for TSHC to
communicate and release information with the prescribing
physician; accidental exposure of healthcare workers
release for source testing. This form is signed by
each student (if under age 18, then signed by parent).

- Reordering of allergy serum is the responsibility of the
patient
- Payment is required when services are rendered.
- The required waiting period after receiving an injection
is a minimum of 20 minutes. If you do not wait, due to the
possibility of an anaphylactic reaction, you will no longer
be able to receive allergy injections at TSHC.

DISCLAIMER: The Allergy
Clinic is for those patients already established with a private
allergist, either in the home town or in Tallahassee. TSHC’s
Allergy Clinic provides the services of giving these patients
their regularly scheduled allergy injections with serum provided
by patients, via their allergists. This is also known as desensitization
therapy. TSHC’s Allergy Clinic does not test for allergies
or mix serums. We simply give the injections according to the
orders provided by the patient’s private allergist.
